What is dichroic glass?

Dichroic glass is a specialised glass containing multiple micro-layers of metal oxides (gold, silver, titanium, chromium, aluminum, zirconium, magnesium and silicon) which give the glass dichroic optical properties. It was originally developed by NASA for use in satellite optics and spacesuit visors, but we use it to make our very individual and unique jewellery.

First the science....the main characteristic of dichroic glass is that it has a transmitted colour and a completely different reflected colour, as certain wavelengths of light either pass through it or are reflected, so the colours you see depend on your point of view.

We fuse the dichroic glass with other glass and due to variations in the firing process, individual results cannot be predicted. This means that each piece of jewellery is unique - we hope you like it!
